Manual Horizontal Mill Operator

|Description:||The manual Horizontal Mill Operator will prepare the machine to preform drilling, tapping, milling, boring and other matching operations over a wide range of surfaces, diameters, and depths. The operator will need to be able to determine operation sequence, select and adjust tools to hold manufacturing tolerances. Job setups may be complex and require milling to tight tolerances.|
|Duties:||Include the following, other duties as assigned. Reads blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining. Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines. Uses overhead cranes and/or forklifts to move parts and rings. Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, and write or edit computerized machine control media. Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required. Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications. Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data. Confers with engineers, planners, programmers, or others to resolve machining problems. Cleans and maintain machine and tools; and grind tools and accessories.|
|Qualifications:||•Minimum 3 years experience operating Manual milling machines in heavy manufacturing industry, or demonstrated abilities through additional-on-the job training or education.|
•Proven ability to read prints and check prints for accuracy and follow production procedures.
•Must have fork lift and crane experience.
•Capable of working within close tolerances and maintain quality.
•Proficient on milling machines, lathe experience preferred.
•Good knowledge of and experience working with steel.
•Must be able to inspect finished parts for accuracy to blueprint and quality standards.
•Detail oriented, demonstrated high level of accuracy and to work safely.
•Represents Peterson in a positive and professional manner at all times.
•Team oriented with a strong work ethic able to function effectively in a fast paced work environment.
